Get rid of your Mac startup chime

Psst! is a simple application that lets you adjust or mute the volume of your Mac's startup chime or startup sound. When installed, simply double-click Psst!in Finder to adjust the volume settings. It's not quite as customizable as startupsound.prefpane, which allows you to instantly activate and deactivate the sound but its very similar. Its a little less sophisticated in that it automatically adjusts the volume settings just after shutting down or logging in. The only problem is that Psst does not work on all Macs and you'll have to check the compatiblity list to see whether it works on yours or not. Psst! is a simple way to silence your Mac startup chime.

Added check routine to prevent Psst from launching from disk imagePsst asks you to anonymously submit your Mac configuration in order to create a comprehensive list of (un-)supported setups. Check it out here: www.satsumac.com/Psst/Compatibility.phpUninstalling Psst: just stop it and trash it!
